Albertson, NY

Having an electric car charging station installed in your Harris County home is definitely a worthwhile investment; however, before you proceed, you probably have some questions. Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions that motorists ask El Lago, TX EV charging installation professionals.

How does an electric car charging station work?

In the United States, standard EV chargers use an SAE J1772 plug; more commonly referred to simply as a “J plug”. The standard J plug is compatible with all makes and models of electric cars and plug-in hybrid vehicles, with Teslas being the only exception; however, adaptors are available to make the standard J plug work with Tesla vehicles, and typically, they’re included with the car, or they can be purchased from dealerships, auto parts suppliers, or online.

Will my existing electric panel be able to accommodate a circuit for an EV charger?

Your Harris County home’s electric panel will need a dedicated circuit to accommodate an EV charger. A El Lago, TX EV charging installation electrician will install the dedicated circuit. If there isn’t enough room in your existing panel, a sub-panel can be installed to accommodate the circuit.

Can I leave my vehicle unattended while it is being charged?

It depends on the type of residential electric car charging station you decided to install in your Harris County home. For a stress-free, safer experience, a reputable El Lago, TX EV charging installation professional will recommend installing a home charging station that is specially designed to automatically stop the transfer of electricity to the car as soon as it is fully charged. With this type of electric car charging station, you won’t have to worry about constantly checking on your vehicle, which means that your car can safely be left plugged in until you’re ready to use it.

Can I install a residential electric car charging station myself?

Unless you’re an experienced electrician who has been trained on how to properly install an EV charger, you will need to hire a El Lago, TX EV charging installation professional. Since electric charging an electric vehicle will increase the demand for electricity on your Harris County home’s electrical supply, the EV charging station will need to be installed on its own circuit, and specific safety measures will need to be taken.
