Routine Electrical Maintenance for your Home

Electricity lights your home, maintains comfortable temperatures, keeps your food from spoiling, and even powers the devices you use for entertainment. Needless to say, you and your family depend on the electrical system that powers your Harris County home on a constant basis. Like most people, however, you probably don’t pay much attention to your electrical system – that is, until there’s a problem. But like any other technology, electricity needs to be properly maintained.

Here’s a look at four reasons why hiring Double G Electric to perform routine electrical maintenance is so important.

Catch Problems Early

Most homeowners don’t pay attention to their electrical system until something goes wrong; the lights start flickering, fuses keep blowing, or the electrical outlets feel hot to the touch, for example. These types of situations are serious and require emergency electrical services; however, with routine electrical maintenance, these types of issues can be detected early and can be corrected before they become serious problems. A licensed and experienced West University Place, TX electrician will perform a thorough assessment of the entire system, and if any issues are spotted, they can be repaired before they progress to the point that they become an emergency.

Improved Safety

Nothing is more important than your safety, and a malfunctioning electrical system can put your safety at risk. Frayed wires, sparks, and shorts can not only cause injuries, but they can also cause electrical fires. The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) estimates that 51,000 home structure fires occur in the United States each year, and these fires injure approximately 1,400 people, and sadly, claim the lives of nearly 500 people.

West University Place, TX

To ensure your safety and the safety of your loved ones, routine electrical maintenance is an absolute must. A reputable West University Place, TX electrician will inspect every component of the electrical system that powers your Harris County home. If any signs of trouble are detected, Double G Electric makes the necessary repairs, thereby preventing the risk of accidents that could result in serious or even life-threatening injuries.

Improved Efficiency

When electrical equipment is properly maintained, it functions more efficiently. Therefore, if you want to ensure your Harris County home’s electrical system is running as efficiently as possible, you’re definitely going to want to have a West University Place, TX electrician perform electrical maintenance services on a regular basis. A credible electrician near you will repair any components that are damaged or that are showing signs of wear-and-tear, which will put less strain on the system, and in turn, will allow the system to function as efficiently as possible.

Cost Savings

Like a lot of Harris County homeowners, you might be under the impression that routine electrical maintenance services are an unnecessary expense; however, in reality, having your system maintained on a regular basis can actually save you a decent amount of money. Electrical maintenance will improve the efficiency of the system, which translates to lower utility bills. Since underlying issues can be detected and corrected before they become major problems that require more extensive – and expensive repairs – and reduce the risk of serious situations, such as electrical fires, which, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), causes more than $1.3 billion in property damage each year, routine electrical maintenance can help you save a tremendous amount of money in the long run. Plus, a reputable West University Place, TX electrician will charge fair and affordable prices, which will absolutely make the maintenance services they provide a worthwhile investment.

Some information about West University Place, TX

West University Place, often called West University or West U for short, is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas within the Houston–Sugar Land metropolitan area and southwestern Harris County. At the 2010 U.S. census, the population of the city was 14,787. Its population increased to 15,585 in 2019. It is nicknamed ‘The Neighborhood City’ and is mainly a bedroom community for upper-class families.

The city was developed in 1917 by Ben Hooper, a former Tennessee governor. The name ‘West University Place’ originated from its proximity to Rice Institute, now known as Rice University. The first lots in the community were sold in 1917. Portions of West University were previously within the Harris County Poor farm, which extended from an area between Bellaire Boulevard and Bissonnet Street, eastward to an area near the ‘poor farm ditch.’

In the 1920s, Lillian ‘Lilly’ Nicholson, a Rice University English major, lived with a friend whose father was a city planner. The city planner asked Nicholson and her friend to name the streets of West University Place. Nicholson took names from her English literature book and gave them to the streets in West University Place. As a result, many West University streets are named after authors, such as Geoffrey Chaucer, John Dryden, and William Shakespeare. Cydney Mackey, a family friend of Nicholson, said in a Houston Chronicle article, ‘Aunt Lilly had always said she wanted to be an architect, unknown for women in that era, and this was her way of making a small but lasting mark on our city’s landscape.’ One street, Weslayan Road, is a misspelling of ‘Wesleyan.’

The City of West University Place was declared incorporated by the County Judge of Harris County on January 2, 1924. The city incorporated because Houston was reluctant to extend power lines that far from the city center. West University Place, unlike Houston Heights, did not consolidate into the City of Houston. Because of the 1923 incorporation, Houston did not incorporate West University Place’s territory into its city limits, while Houston annexed surrounding areas that were unincorporated. In 1939, the municipality refused to consolidate, later adopting a formal city charter the following year. The city had around 15,000 residents in the 1960s and the 1970s. The city had 12,714 people in 1990.
